The Loading Bay

The Loading Bay

30 Hudson Street, de Waterkant

Denims, shirts, belts and bags plus breakfast and burgers in an edgy urban setting.

Bustling with business types, meeting and clicking away on their laptops, while pausing to sip their steaming coffees or browse through the international labels that stock up the clothing rails, The Loading Bay is a local trendy hot-spot.

Owner Jon-Paul Bolus can often be seen sporting some of the funky brands available in his store, chatting with his customers or even donning an apron and helping out when it gets busy.

Having studied design at Cape Tech and travelling the world for years after, Jon-Paul decided he wanted to become his own boss and came up with the idea to open a unique lifestyle concept store offering what he believes are some of the worlds best brands. ‘We have a passion for clothing, good food and a good lifestyle in general, and I kind of wanted to put it all in one space. It’s a lifestyle concept, how a person lives, eats, travels – and I wanted to get that going in a retail atmosphere with a consistency of product and design. It makes more sense if you’re opening a store on the street to combine it with something that helps to generate more traffic, while creating an experience for the consumer.’ To Jon-Paul, De Waterkant was the perfect area to set up shop not only for its foot traffic, but for its European and Dutch heritage.

Shoppers come for the trendy denims, everyday urban-style shirts and shoes that offer comfortable luxury.

Foodie lovers can expect delicious artisan coffee, tasty breakfasts, sarmies, burgers and a dash of Lebanese cuisine (all foods are bought directly from local farmers).

Those for a key eye on design will even be able to pick up copies of the international magazine, Monocle.

The store opens from 7am for early birdies and closing at 6pm, except for Thursdays, where the store holds a funky burger evening until 10:30pm.
