Awesome foodie find

I don’t usually go to Vredehoek. Not unless we happen to be visiting our awesome arty braai-master friends.

But we happened to be invited to dinner at The Sidewalk Café, a place I’d been to try out, but whenever it came to dining out, Vredehoek just never popped up on my mental radar.

Also, I am guilty of often eating at the same places again and again. But that’s I guess what you do when you find reliable, awesome dinner spots.

On that note, I would love to go to Sidewalk Café again. We had such a lovely evening.

The atmosphere is cosy, funky and intimate with soft candle lighting and trendy young people.

But most of all, I have to say that the service was super fast, which is always impressive in Cape Town.

Feast you eyes on what we ate:

For starters I had the Patagonian Calamari with a lemon, rosemary and chilli garlic sauce (R45) and my partner-in-crime had the Prawns in Pastry served with a lemon, apricot and sweet chilli sauces (R55). Both can be had as a main portion. The prawns were a definite winner.

Usually my partner-in-crime makes the best food choices while I uhm-and-aah about what to choose at new venues. But we decided that as far as the main courses went, I was the winner…

I had the Organic Beef Fillet with parsley, goats cheese pesto and crushed new potato (R140) Slow Roasted Springbok Shank with roast veg, mashed potato and gremolata (R120).

Please note, this did not mean that the springbok wasn’t good, it was just that my dish was so amazing!!! Both meats were cooked beautifully.

For dessert I had the cake of the day – baked cheesecake (R30) and my partner-in-crime had the chocolate brownie with homemade ice-cream (R35). Both were equally delicious and I love it when a venue makes their own ice-cream.

We drank a bottle of house red, which was unlabelled so I can’t tell you what it was just ask for Sidewalk Red (R90). It was pretty decent... I had had a few other drinks by this stage though...

I reckon this is an awesome ‘FIRST DATE’ spot… and many dates after.
