The charming town of Franschhoek will be turning red, white and blue in celebration of its centuries-old French Huguenot heritage this upcoming weekend at the Bastille Festival. The Food and Wine Marquee is the focal point of the festival, offering visitors the opportunity to taste local wines and signature dishes – from oysters and sushi to local and French cheeses to charcuterie, hand-made chocolates and salmon trout from the area. Other activities include boules and barrel-rolling competitions, screenings of French films, minstrel parades and food and crafts stalls. Local restaurants will be offering special menus too.

Date: 16 and 17 July

*Note: When I went last year it was more expensive than I realised, so make sure you have enough cashiesh on you. Also, the entrance to the Food & Wine Marquee only gives you limited coupons. You will need to buy more.
